Nexim Bank Champions Nigeria Agro-Industrial Revolution – N2billion Shea Butter Processing Plant

NEXIM Bank reinforced its pivotal role in driving Nigeria’s agro‑industrial transformation with the commissioning of the ₦2 billion Salid Shea Butter Processing Plant in Kudu, Mokwa Local Government Area, Niger State — a project set to transform the nation’s shea value chain and expand non‑oil export capacity.

The state‑of‑the‑art facility backed by NEXIM’s structured financing is among the largest shea butter processing plants in Africa, with a production capacity of up to 100 tonnes per day and, an annual output capable of reaching 30,000 metric tonnes of refined shea butter. This industrial milestone aligns with broader national efforts to move beyond raw commodity exports and generate higher value‑added products for both regional and global markets.

At the commissioning ceremony, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago highlighted the strategic importance of the project— noting that Nigeria accounts for a significant share of global shea nut production, with more than half originating from Niger State alone. The Governor also announced complementary initiatives, including the planting of 10 million shea trees to sustain raw material supply and further strengthen the shea value chain.

The Managing Director of NEXIM, Mr. Abubakar Abba Bello, during a tour of the facility, underscored the Bank’s commitment to supporting projects that create jobs, stimulate rural economic activity, and enhance Nigeria’s export competitiveness across non‑oil sectors.

By championing this flagship agro‑processing investment he said, NEXIM Bank does not only support industrialization and value addition but also reinforces its mandate to unlock export opportunities for Nigerian producers and exporters, drive sustainable economic growth, and catalyse broader participation in global value chains.
